What to do there

Amsterdamse Bos is Amsterdam’s largest forest, 3 times the size of New York’s Central Park. Making it an ideal place to hold all kinds of events. From food and drink festivals to music and film festivals – Amsterdamse Bos is a great place to explore during the summer!

When alt-J first announced two tour dates performing in Amsterdamse Bos, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to go. However, the tickets sold out quickly and were pretty expensive coming in at €53. Nevertheless, when it came to the day the weather was forecast for storms and heavy rain and it was apparent that people with tickets panicked when realising this and wanted to get rid of the tickets as quickly as possible. These people were idiots.

In the end, I got my ticket from TicketSwap for only €20 a couple of hours before the show was set to start!

How to get there

Amsterdamse Bos is located in the south-west of Amsterdam, in between Amsterdam and Amstelveen. It might seem like a long way but the route is relatively easy, as you follow one long road going South from the Amsterdam Olympic Stadium. From the New-West it took us around 30 – 35 minutes to cycle there (including getting slightly lost of course). The forest is also accessible by public transport but requires various bus routes.

After cycling around somewhat clueless, we finally found BosTheater which was hidden right within the forest. I was half expecting a Leeds Festival main stage but instead found a small open air stage with tiered seating, a bar at the back and small food trunks. I loved the vibe, it was super gezellig.

I would definitely recommend visiting Amsterdamse Bos during the summer. While it is quite far out of the centre, you can get there in around 30 minutes by bike which also beats the huge amount of car traffic when leaving the park.

After such a fun night I would also say to have TicketSwap downloaded on your phone! You could find a ticket to any major event that you wanted to attend in Amsterdam and set price alerts for each one. Which means you can have spontaneous nights instead of staying in on a Sunday night – because who would want to do that?
